Meeting 3

This is just an outline of the session and will change according to your needs and progress so far.

Meeting 3 (w/b 16th June)

Aim: Begin to justify choices and build up activities for personal statement

* Discuss possible course choices and universities – Why do you think this course/university is appropriate to you? What differences have you noticed between establishments?

* What interests you about the courses you are looking at?

* How many universities have you visited? Are you attending the Cambridge residential?

* Have you considered work experience for the summer and the benefits that can provide in aiding your UCAS application

* Reading –you need to read around your subject – both books and articles. Can you demonstrate an interest in current affairs.

* Are you registered on the UCAS website? Have a look at the process of applying, make sure that you can provide good examples for your personal statement. NB you need to pay £15 when you apply in September, this is either by credit or debit card, however some schools will pay on your behalf then you pay them back. Find out the options now to prevent slowing you down next term.

* Plan the venue for the next mentoring session, this should be somewhere applicable to your studies eg gallery, theatre, museum exhibition

For next session:

* Print off the 3 articles of the Month on the HEAPS website (and read them!)

* Register on the UCAS website if you haven't done so already.

* Draft the outline of your personal statement for your mentor.
