East Midlands
The East Midlands is an exciting region that is providing many opportunities for our teachers to make real differences in our schools. The smaller size and relative youth of this Teach First region has resulted in incredibly strong bonds and friendships between our entry-year cohorts.

The information about the regions and schools in Kent and Medway we will be working with will be updated shortly.
London
Owing to the high cost of living, participants tend to live outside central London (often in shared flats), although 80% of London allocations are also in underground zones 3-6. London is where Teach First was first launched in 2003 and is home to the largest family of Teach First cohorts.

The North East is one of the newer Teach First regions - we began placing participants here in 2011. It's an intensely rewarding place to live and spend quality leisure time with its vibrant cities and beautiful coast and countryside.

The North West cohort tends to be very close knit and many participants live in the same areas of the cities we cover. The quality of life is good within the major cities and living here means easy access to the countryside with the Peak District and the Lake District within reach.

Most of our teachers in this region are based in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley. The cost of living in this region is considerably lower than some areas and many participants are able to live in close proximity to their schools.

There is a varied and diverse demographic here and the potential for you to make a real difference. Wherever you are based in this region, you are never far from the countryside so participants can enjoy an enviable mix of urban and country activities.

Getting to know your cohort
Whichever region you work in, you’ll find that Teach First participants form close-knit supportive groups and enjoy rich and varied lives outside work. Many choose to live with fellow participants and during the summer you will be given valuable advice on finding affordable housing and how to connect with other participants seeking accommodation in each region.
Be flexible about location
Teach First is a national programme covering seven regions – East Midlands, Kent and Medway (pending approval) London, North East, North West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber. You may have strong initial views about where you want to work, but our focus is on placing highly motivated individuals where they are most needed and we recommend that you be open minded about location. During the application you will be able to state your regional preferences, however we will prioritise the needs of the schools and their children over the preferences of our applicants.
Our Programme
At the heart of Teach First is a unique two-year Leadership Development Programme. Challenging, stimulating and practical, it has been designed to develop your leadership skills, giving you the ability to adapt to new or changing situation and inspire enthusiasm and ambition in the classroom.
Recruitment & selection
Are you the kind of person who could make an impact in one of Teach First’s partner schools? You’ll need bright ideas, gritty determination, awesome communication skills and the confidence to stand up in front of 30 pupils, engage their attention, deflect their jibes and lead them on a journey. It’s a big ask.
