Yen Nguyen (’07) Ambassador
Studied Maths, Warwick
Now Analyst, Accenture
An ex-pupil of mine messaged me and reminded me of something I had taught him. It was in year 11. Try as I might, I couldn’t get them to remember the formula for the circumference and area of a circle. So I thought I’d use something that I learnt at the Summer Institute, which was a song to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round”, but the lyrics were the formula for the circumference and area of a circle. I managed to get my year 11s to sing this song and repeat it over and over.
Not only did they remember it, but they told me after their GCSE exam, “Oh miss, that question came up and I was singing that song in my head,” which was great to hear.
The pupil that had messaged me said how, even when he was doing his maths A-level, he still remembered the song that I taught him.
It’s really good to be able to hear the impact that you can have a few years down the line. It’s amazing to be able to have that.
