Mission
‘To address educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers and leaders in all fields.’
Educational disadvantage remains one of the UK’s most enduring and divisive social issues. Teach First aims to help tackle this ongoing problem by attracting high-calibre graduates into teaching in challenging schools that are struggling to attract teachers through other routes and whose students, for a variety of reasons, feel that education is not a priority. With Teach First’s support, exceptional graduates can become inspiring teachers, and develop as inspiring leaders ready to pursue influential careers in any field – and to continue advocating for the transforming potential of education and Teach First in their role as Ambassadors.
What Teach First isn’t
Teach First isn’t a teacher supply agency. Instead, we are an independent, non-profit organisation backed by HM Government and the teaching profession to help address educational disadvantage.
Teach First isn’t a soft option or a part-time programme. In fact, the Teach First programme is a full-time, full-on challenge, providing its participants – high-achieving graduates – with the toughest and most searching test of their character and abilities. We make no bones about it – as an entry route to teaching, Teach First is incredibly demanding, requiring dedication and commitment, limitless energy and relentless optimism. It’s not for everyone.
