Coaching Programme
*The Leadership programme is continually evolving to better meet the needs of participants, as well as addressing the Teach First mission.
Towards the end of your first year – as your confidence and competence as a teacher is becoming more established – you will have the opportunity to be assigned a Teach First coach who will act as an independent outside support in your leadership and professional development. Coaches are experienced professionals, drawn from a wide variety of industry sectors – from large and prestigious employers such as Citi, McKinsey & Company and the BBC, to successful entrepreneurs and now, for the first time, Teach First Ambassadors – people who have experienced Teach First and lived to tell the tale.
Your coach can fulfil a variety of roles, helping you to consider your career opportunities beyond Teach First, deal with challenges in the work place, establish new contacts and consider new ideas or ways of thinking. In some cases, he or she may also be able to help you build a bridge between school and the world of business and develop ways in which their business can help your school. Above all your coach will provide encouragement and a different perspective on whatever you are experiencing as a teacher.
Your coach will be assigned to you at a coach-matching event in May or June of your first year. How frequently you get together and what you discuss will be down to the two of you – certainly you’ll find no shortage of enthusiasm on your coach’s part as he or she will have been selected for their energy, interest in education and commitment to the Teach First mission.
